Why I Start at the Bench

Why I Start at the Bench

Welcome to the studio.

If you are reading this, you are likely someone who appreciates not just the finished piece, but the journey it took to get there. I’m Zandra (Yin), and this is where I spend most of my days—at the bench, here in Pacifica, surrounded by the rhythm of the ocean and the hum of the studio.

People often ask why I focus so heavily on the technical side of things—why I spend hours mastering the high-heat, solderless fusion of Argentium silver rather than using easier, traditional methods.

The truth is, there is an alchemy in the process. When I fuse two loops of silver, I am not just joining metal; I am creating a bond that has no weak points. There is no solder, no seam, no place where the metal was once separate. It is a perfect, unbroken loop. To me, that is the most honest way to represent the things we hold dear—our relationships, our milestones, and the promises we make to ourselves.

I founded LoveGem Studio in 2013 with a ring I made for my own hand. That piece was more than jewelry; it was a physical manifestation of a new chapter in my life. Since then, my work has become a collection of these chapters—some written by me, and many written by you.

This journal, Bench Notes, is going to be my way of sharing that process with you. Expect to see:

• Behind-the-torch peeks: The technical challenges I’m solving at the bench.

• Stories of the stones: Why I chose a specific Moonstone or Jade for a collection, and the energy it carries.

• The "Why" behind the "Wear": A look at the customs and narratives that inspire your pieces.

Thank you for being here, and for letting me be a part of your story. Whether you are here to browse our foundational Alchemist’s Pulse collection or to find a Luminous Narrative that speaks to your life, I’m honored to have you.

Stay tuned for more notes from the bench.

With warmth,

Zandra Founder & Maker, LoveGem Studio
